Hello Unforgettable Fans!
Every Thursday, Unforgettable Service & Events will be featuring a different event that we have had the pleasure of directing. Last week we began with the INSPIRE! Bridal Tour, Dawn’s favorite event that we produce biannually. This week, we have decided to feature the wedding of clients Dr. and Mrs. Montgomery Wettstein.
Mary and Monty’s wedding on September 28th, 2014 presented Unforgettable with one of their craziest challenges yet. The worst storm of the year happened to hit the valley the day of their vineyard wedding. The bride’s vision of an elegant evening under the stars, at the gorgeous King Estate Winery was planned with Dawn with meticulous attention to detail. We had worked with the couple to plan every last aspect of their dream wedding from their dream venue to the white velvet backdrops with Tiffany blue up lighting behind each lounge area surrounding the dance floor. It was going to be a beautiful fall evening! We just knew it!
However, Mother Nature had very different plans for us. As seasoned coordinators, we always have a backup plan for inclement weather especially in the Willamette Valley, no matter what time of year, because weather here is incredibly unpredictable. The closer the wedding got, the more concerned we became with the weather being less than perfect. Dawn made sure to get the reception space covered just in case the weather would not allow for an outdoor reception, when the warnings predicted not just rain, but monsoon type conditions with high winds.
Our lovely bride, Mary was still hopeful that the wedding could take place outside on the lawn and did not want to move it inside if at all possible; so she agreed to let Dawn, with her expertise, make a last minute decision to move the ceremony inside if it indeed became necessary. The morning of the wedding, there was no question the storm was on its way. As the bride was getting her hair and makeup done, Dawn made the call and moved the ceremony indoors. She had already made the arrangements two days before in case this situation happened, making the transition to the indoor location seamless. Not all of the outdoor wedding dreams the bride wanted was lost, however. The photographer was able to get some fantastic wedding shots of the couple out by the vineyard before the winds set in.
As the guests finished dinner and the party was just beginning, the storm hit hard. The King Estate tent that was being used for bussing and storage went flying down the driveway. On top of this, water collection buckets in the main tent were being emptied every five minutes due to the heavy rainfall. To add to this, the wind blew so strongly that at one point, the side of the tent that had been anchored down securely blew in and sent a floral arrangement crashing to the ground. The outdoor area had to be evacuated for safety reasons.
While Dawn and her crew ended up being soaked by the storm, none of the guests realized all that had gone on that night. US&E had kept the timeline going smoothly and the couple and the guests calm. Dawn was told later by the couple that no one had realized that things had gotten moved to avoid getting wet or damaged.
The bride even wrote us this glowing review:
“If you think you don’t need a wedding planner, you’re wrong, very wrong. You need Dawn and her staff if you want your wedding to be perfectly planned. No details will be overlooked. She came up with awesome ideas and has great connections. She’ll be there for you at any hour of the day and answer questions and address your concerns. My September vineyard wedding happened to coincide with the year’s craziest storm. Dawn had to redo everything last minute, the guests never knew. So all you Oregon brides, have a rain backup plan! Choose Dawn, she’s awesome!!!”
We are so happy that she loved her wedding and that we were able to make her big day such a special event, even with the unpredictable Oregon weather!
