Who doesn’t enjoy a day of pure relaxation and bliss. So often, we find ourselves deep in work with little focus on time for ourselves. For some, it’s a balancing act: hands over keyboard, head at an odd angle clutching the phone between the ear and shoulder, and all the while managing both a conversation and interacting with a computer. For others, it is manual labor, such as building or moving heavy objects, or run-walking on their feet while maintaining an air of customer service. Here at Unforgettable Service & Events, it is often a combination of all of those trades that helps us create the memorable experiences we share with our clients. That’s not to say we’re all work and no play, though. There are times when a little relaxation is in order as well.
We love to receive pampering and client care almost as much as we enjoy giving it. In a business where extraordinary service is our foundation, we love to find others who care as much about their patron’s experience as we care about our clients’. When presented with an opportunity to take a break and enjoy a little girl time, Dawn, from Unforgettable, and Lillian, wife of Lyle from The Likable Scribe, took advantage of a birthday to treat themselves to a spa day. Even though we are only sharing a small part of the whole experience, our delight in the wonderful and exceptional service just has to be shared!
After some research and a few phone calls to fellow professionals, The Dragontree Holistic Spa became the front runner in a short list of places to try. Although Yelp can be helpful when searching for a new establishment, more often than not, the most vocal are the critics and it can be hard to decipher how a business handles itself based solely on those reviews. When Dawn was looking for a spa, the thing that stood out the most about The Dragontree was how the owners handled bad reviews by responding, acknowledging the incident, and offering solutions to the complaint. Service is the life of Unforgettable… it’s in our name, and Dragontree’s responses spoke volumes about the character of the business and its owners.
After Lillian had a chance to look at the various options, she agreed that Dragontree was the front runner. We placed a call and, with exceptional service from the gentleman handling the phones (including some joking about the Moon Time Treatment – a specific package for those who might feel the need to smack someone during those weeks where women have less patience for others), we were told what we needed to prepare, what to bring (basically nothing), and what to expect from our visit. We set a date for the following week and resumed our respective work.
After a bit of maneuvering by our driver around the blockades in place for the Presidential visit to Portland, we arrived at the Dragontree Holistic Spa. We were surprised to find the minimalistic red door, surrounded by an unassuming NW Portland façade, to be the entrance to the place we had seen on their website. As it turned out, it was really the secret entrance to an oasis of relaxation and refreshment. Lillian was pleased that it wasn’t the fru-fru or uber sheik spa often associated with upper North West Portland, and instead, it was a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The young lady at the desk immediately welcomed us and offered refreshment while we completed the associated paperwork. We were given a tour of the facility and then shown the changing room to prepare for our stop in the dry sauna before splitting up to our individual treatments. Donning the most amazing swallow-you-whole robes, we headed to our individual appointments, Lillian for a Custom Facial, Green Tea Salt Glow Body Treatment, and a Swedish Massage; and Dawn for a Warm Milk Foot Bath, Custom Facial and also a Swedish Massage.
While Lillian settled into the warm and tranquil smaller room for her facial, Dawn was guided to her foot bath in the Sangha Room, a large open space adorned with overstuffed couches mounted on platforms, plentiful and comfortable pillows, and a beautiful, calming décor with matching colors. Dawn described her experience for us: “Once seated, an herbal wrap was placed around my neck while I looked over the menu of foot treatments. Settling on the Warm Milk Foot Bath, the attendant appeared a few minutes later with an ornate wooden cart sporting a large, copper basin filled with warm white honey water and two bright yellow flowers floating on top. It was so pretty, I felt guilty sliding my feet in, but when I did… oh my goodness! It was wonderful! I sat and read while the water performed its relaxing magic. The therapist reappeared halfway through to ensure the water remained warm, and then returned a final time to bathe my feet in peppermint water before drying them off. I thought I was going to move, but the attendant told me to sit and relax for a little longer. Moments later, another therapist came in, removed the herbal wrap, and provided twenty much needed minutes of shoulder and neck massage therapy, sending me into a blissfully relaxed state before moving to my tailored facial and Swedish massage.”
Following the individual treatments, Dawn and Lillian met back in the dressing room to shower before returning to the real world. The changing space was well stocked with everything we needed. The attendant wasn’t kidding when he told us we didn’t need to bring anything; large warm towels, flip flops, hair brushes, rejuvenating soaps and shampoos, hair care products, and even hair ties were all provided. Unlike some places where product pushing is part of the experience, The Dragontree relied on the quality of their service and the plush, relaxing atmosphere to sell itself as a business. It was clear that the owners, Briana and Dr. Peter Borten, care as much about their client’s experience as we do at Unforgettable, and we appreciate the care shown by everyone we encountered during our time at The Dragontree. It was a much needed day of pampering, especially heading in to the busiest part of Unforgettable’s year – wedding season. The Dragontree Holistic Spa provided everything we needed and we look forward to returning again to indulge in the peaceful and tranquil setting as their therapists pamper us while attending to our needs.
